The Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf is an award winning education and certification program that helps golf courses protect our environment and preserve the natural heritage of the game of golf. By helping people enhance the valuable natural areas and wildlife habitats that golf courses provide, improve efficiency, and minimize potentially harmful impacts of golf course operations, the program serves as vital resource for golf courses.
For more information on this program, please contact Jason Lowe
, General Manager at Arbutus Ridge Golf Club.
Furry Creek Golf & Country Club, a proud partipant of this program is currently in the process of obtaining Audobon Certification. Furry Creek's efforts include:
- recycling of grass clippings
- consistant monitoring of diseases
- treating diseases curatively
- conserve water by sourcing existing moving water rather than extracting from the ground
- using water to supplement a fish bearing stream
Preservation of the wildlife habitats that surround the course has always been an integral aspect of Furry Creek. Various species of birds and small animals live peacefully in the wild natural habitat surrounding the course, while bear proof garbage containers keep the larger animals at bay.
